In Manyoro, our grand parents had a way of keeping fire alive until the next day. At night, they covered the coal with ash to keep it burning till morning. If the fire died, the whole family suffered. You had to go and beg fire from your neighbour. Shame!

We often hear the youth say, “I don’t feel motivated today?” Inspiration is like a shadow. It appears and disappears depending on your location. Inspiration is a visitor. Discipline is the wife who lives in the house and gets things done.

A house is not built by feelings. It takes discipline and sustained effort. It takes the arrangement of bricks, one at a time, to build a house.

Social media shows us motivation videos, but never shows the 5am alarm.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR FIRE BURNING
Build A Ritual, Not Just A Goal {The Altar}.

If your goal is 500 articles, your ritual is: Write 500 words every 5am before sunrise. The altar needs a daily sacrifice – your data bundles, your sleepless nights, your small corner where you write.

Feed the Fire With the Right Wood

Don’t expect a big fire when you feed it with wet wood. What is wet wood? Gossip, envy, comparison, procrastination.

Good wood to increase the flame: books, Scriptures, mastermind groups, positive people, and testimonies from readers like “more grace, more blessings.” Those positive comments are your good wood!

Guard Your Fireplace From the Wind {Protect your space}.

In Manyoro, as in many places, wind kills fire. Wind stands for disparaging remarks, zero likes, friends who mock, “you and your articles.” If they don’t read your articles today, tomorrow their grandchildren will.

You must build a wall around your fire. How? Write anyway. Post anyway. The youth would need your Rome to cure their “quick-quick fever.”

HOW TO REKINDLE TODAY {Practical Fire-starters}

Light Your Fire Again: Don’t aim for perfection. Write 100 words today. A small fire is better than no fire.

Break Large Tasks Into Smaller Ones: Don’t write a full article at once. Write one or two paragraphs every day to complete it.

Remember The Cold: Remember your trashcan beginnings. No turning back.
