The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and The Gambia have opened the inaugural annual conference of the ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority (ERCA) in Banjul.
The three-day conference is bringing together nearly 300 decision-makers, experts and international partners to discuss how competition policy can support regional integration.
The conference, which began on Tuesday, September 15, will end on Thursday, September 17, with participants expected to develop policy recommendations and proposals to strengthen competition across the ECOWAS common market.
The opening ceremony was jointly chaired by The Gambia's Vice President, Muhammad B.S. Jallow, and President of the ECOWAS Commission, General Birame Diop.
In a news release shared on Thursday, ECOWAS said the conference is being held under the theme of turning competition policy into an effective tool for regional integration.
It is expected to produce a declaration, actionable policy recommendations, concrete reform proposals and a regional knowledge-sharing network.
These outcomes are expected to contribute to efforts to strengthen the ECOWAS common market and improve the implementation of competition policy across member states.
