Ghana Police Service secures 76 acres of land to establish FPU training depot at Akyem Oda

The Ghana Police Service is set to establish a training depot for recruits of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) at Akyem Oda, following the release of 76 acres of land by the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area for the project.

A four-member delegation comprising officials from the Ministry for the Interior and the Police Administration visited Oda last Monday to engage traditional rulers on arrangements for the establishment of the facility.

The visit followed an appeal made in Accra by the Omanhene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Dr Frimpong Manso IV, to the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, and the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

During the visit, the delegation, accompanied by traditional rulers, the Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive, Solomon Brako Kusi, and personnel from the Oda Divisional Police Command, inspected the land allocated for the proposed police training depot.

Addressing the gathering, Oseadeeyo Frimpong Manso cautioned individuals who had encroached on the land to leave voluntarily. He warned that those who failed to comply would be evicted by a joint team from the police and the traditional council without compensation.

The Omanhene expressed appreciation to the Interior Minister and the IGP for approving the proposal, saying the facility would serve the interests of both the government and the country.

He further noted that Oda’s strategic location along the proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway could attract several industrial establishments to the area, making the police depot a valuable addition to the community.

Oseadeeyo Frimpong Manso said the Akyem Ajobue area had substantial deposits of sand and stones that could be used in constructing the facility.

He appealed to tipper truck owners in the area to voluntarily make their vehicles available to transport the materials to the project site to support the timely completion of the depot.

The Omanhene also called on wealthy citizens of Akyem Kotoku to contribute financially towards the construction and development of the proposed police facility.

He urged residents to protect the peace, unity and stability prevailing in the traditional area.

The delegation also inspected a police office complex currently under construction for the Oda Divisional Police Command.

The Divisional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Abdulai Kamagate, who led the inspection, explained that the project was being financed through local resources after the landlord of the command’s rented premises, which had been occupied for more than 50 years, sold the property.

The delegation leaders, Solomon Tetteh Mensah of the Ministry for the Interior and Superintendent Stephen Abakah of the Police Administration, commended the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area for its efforts to secure the land and facilitate the project.

They assured the traditional authorities that their findings would be submitted to the relevant departmental heads of the ministry for further consideration.
