Hon. Bishop Dr. Hamidu Adamu, leader of New Life Bible College, has launched a fierce defence of newer churches, telling critics to stop branding them as “one-man churches.”
Bishop Hamidu delivered the strong message during the 11th Graduation and Holy Convocation of New Life Bible College at the Consecration of True Joy Church, Ejisu-Krapa Bronikrom, on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
He questioned the logic behind singling out contemporary churches for the “one-man church” tag, arguing that many established religious institutions also have prominent founders whose visions shaped their development.
“All churches are one-man churches,” he declared.
He cited the Methodist, Presbyterian, Anglican, Baptist, Roman Catholic, Seventh-day Adventist, Pentecostal and Assemblies of God churches, among others, as churches that were founded by a single individual.
He insisted that the existence and presence of a founding personality should not automatically become a yardstick for labeling a church as a 'one-man church'.
He also referenced Islam in making his argument, pointing to the role of its founding figure.
Bishop Hamidu was blunt in his appeal to critics: “All should stop saying that.”
According to him, the real difference between older churches and many newer churches is their administrative structure.
He acknowledged that older churches generally have stronger and more structured administrative systems, but argued that this does not justify portraying newer churches as inferior simply because their leadership is more centralised.
Turning his attention to pastors, Bishop Hamidu demanded greater responsibility and integrity in Christian ministry.
“Pastors should work hard... stop the fake prophecies... find a work to do. They should repent,” he charged.
He equally warned church members against hastily branding pastors as fake. “If you are not okay with the delivery of some pastors, don't condemn them. Switch to a different one but don't condemn,” he advised.
The fiery intervention came at a graduation ceremony centred on “Called to Serve and Not to Be Served,” underscoring Bishop Hamidu’s broader call for responsible leadership, accountability and genuine service within the Christian community.
