Wa-Bolgatanga trunk road to be asphalted – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of the Upper West Region that the Wa-Bolgatanga trunk road will be asphalted after the completion of the double surface dressing, to ensure its durability and longevity.

“… after we are done with the double surface dressing, we will seal the whole road with asphalt from Wa to Bolgatanga, so that at least we know that for the next 20 years the road will last and will require just very little maintenance,” he said.

President Mahama gave the assurance at Hain in the Jirapa Municipality when he inspected the progress of work on the Wa-Hain Big Push Road Project as part of his two-day “Resetting Ghana” tour of the Upper West Region.

He indicated that some people were of the view that the Wa-Tumu-Bolgatanga Road could not be tarred but added that he would soon commission that road to link the Upper West and Upper East Regions.

“People believed that this road would never ever be done. I believe that today we can see that before the end of 2027 we will have a very comfortable ride between the two regions,” President Mahama stated.

The President said the first phase of the Big Push programme was targeting trunk roads linking regional capitals, while the second and third phases would focus on other major and feeder roads across the country.

He expressed confidence in P&W Ghanem, the contractor executing the Wa-Hain Road project, to deliver quality work, citing the contractor’s many years of experience in road construction.

President Mahama also inspected the progress of work on the 24-Hour Economy Market project at Nadowli, the Nadowli-Kaleo District capital, and commended the contractor for the pace at which the project was progressing.

He expressed concern about the slow pace of work on other projects and urged the contractors in charge of those projects to emulate the contractor working on the Nadowli market project.

The President said the completion of the markets would contribute to improving the economic conditions of people in the area, particularly farmers, by providing an outlet for them to sell their agricultural produce.

Madam Mary Haruna, the Nadowli-Kaleo District Chief Executive, said women in the area were eager to see the completion of the market, noting that they would be among the major beneficiaries of the facility.

The President further inspected ongoing work on a Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) project at the Hain Senior High School.

As part of his tour, President Mahama was expected to inspect ongoing work on the 24-Hour Economy Market at Poyentanga in the Wa West District, hold a # tag ResettingGhana citizen engagement at the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS) Wa, inspect selected projects at UBIDS and inspect the site for the new Wa airport.
