Ghana announces visa-free travel to Maldives, Zambia and Antigua and Barbuda

Ghanaian passport holders can now travel to the Maldives, Zambia, Antigua and Barbuda without obtaining an entry visa, following the ratification and entry into force of visa waiver agreements between Ghana and the 3 countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the arrangement in a public notice dated September 8, 2026, saying the visa waivers apply to eligible holders of Ghanaian Ordinary, Service and Diplomatic passports.

Under the agreements, Ghanaian travellers to the Republic of Maldives and the Republic of Zambia may enter and stay for a maximum of 30 days without a visa.

For Antigua and Barbuda, the visa-free arrangement permits eligible Ghanaian passport holders to stay for a maximum of 90 days.

The Ministry, however, cautioned that visa-free entry does not exempt travellers from complying with the immigration and entry requirements of their destination countries.

It said Ghanaian passport holders must travel with valid passports and any other documents required by the relevant authorities and must not exceed the permitted duration of stay under the respective visa waiver agreements.

The Ministry further clarified that travellers intending to undertake employment, study, residence or any other activity for which a permit or specific authorisation is required must obtain the appropriate approval from the relevant authorities.

Travellers have also been advised to confirm current entry, health and other applicable requirements with the relevant authorities or the nearest Embassy or High Commission of their destination country before travelling, as such requirements may change.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the visa waiver arrangements form part of its commitment to facilitating the movement of Ghanaian citizens and strengthening Ghana’s bilateral relations with partner countries.
