GNPC Explorco courts investors for Voltaian Basin exploration

GNPC Explorco, Ghana’s national exploration company, has highlighted the investment opportunities in the Voltaian Basin as the country seeks to attract new investment into its upstream petroleum sector.

The company made the case for increased exploration and strategic partnerships in the basin during Ghana Day at AOW:Energy 2026 in Accra.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of GNPC Explorco, Sam Opoku Arthur, said the Voltaian Basin remains an important frontier for expanding Ghana’s petroleum exploration portfolio.

He said the company is working to improve geological understanding of the basin, reduce exploration risks and create opportunities for credible investors and technical partners.

“The Voltaian Basin represents an exciting frontier for Ghana’s exploration future. Our focus is to systematically unlock its potential through technical excellence, responsible exploration and strategic partnerships," he said.

Mr Opoku Arthur said collaboration, technical expertise and strategic investment would be critical to unlocking the potential of frontier basins.

The Voltaian Basin is Ghana’s principal onshore frontier basin and remains relatively underexplored compared with the country’s established offshore petroleum provinces.

GNPC Explorco said its participation in AOW:Energy 2026 was aimed at engaging international investors and building partnerships to advance exploration in Ghana’s underexplored petroleum basins.

The company is seeking credible technical and financial partners to support exploration and potential development while ensuring that activities are conducted responsibly and generate sustainable value for Ghana.
