NPP is recycling failed politicians in its upcoming national executive elections – Hamza Suhuyini

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Communications Team, Alhassan Suhuyini, has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over its ongoing process to elect new national executives.

The NPP is preparing to elect new national officers on October 3, in Kumasi.

The party has cleared 47 aspirants to contest nine national executive positions, including National Chairman, Vice-Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Nasara Organiser and National Communications Director.

The National Chairmanship race features former chairman Paul Afoko, former General Secretary John Boadu, former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko and former Greater Accra Regional Chairman Sammy Crabbe.

Reacting to this, Suhuyini argued that the NPP’s internal elections do not amount to a genuine reorganisation of the party as it seeks to recover from its defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking on Accra-based TV3’s New Day on Thursday, September 10, he said the NPP should have undertaken a broader process of introspection and structural reform rather than focusing mainly on internal elections.

“First, I do not see a party that is reorganising. What I have seen since 2025 is a party that is conducting internal elections," the NDC communicator said.

Suhuyini said the NDC went through a deeper reorganisation process after losing power in 2016, including opening the party up to criticism and asking difficult questions about its weaknesses.

He argued that the NPP’s current process had instead reinforced existing divisions within the party, particularly through what he described as the resurgence of old factions in the various contests.
