Mining investors must help Ghana add value to its minerals – Lands Minister 

Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has called for strategic mining partnerships that will help Ghana move beyond the export of raw minerals and retain more value from its natural resources.

He said the government was seeking investments in mineral processing, technology transfer, skills development and mining infrastructure to create jobs and support industrialisation.

The Minister made the call at the 2026 China Mining Conference at the Tianjin Meijiang International Convention and Exhibition Center in Tianjin, China, on Thursday, September 10.

“We have the resources, but the dynamics must change. We must have a win-win partnership,” he said.

The Minister said the country's mineral resources should be used to develop local industries and ensure that communities and citizens benefit significantly from the country's natural wealth.

He said investors who partner Ghana's mining sector should bring not only capital but also technology and expertise to support local capacity and value addition.

According to him, the government wants cooperation that will ensure more of the value generated from Ghana's minerals remains in the country rather than being realised mainly through the export of unprocessed resources.

“We must have technological transfer. We must have value addition and processing and industrialization in Ghana, taking advantage of the minerals,” he said.

Meanwhile, the comment comes amid a recent directive from the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), banning the exportation of raw gold dore effective September 1.
