Girls-In-ICT 2025 beneficiaries have visited the American Tower Corporation (ATC) in Accra as part of the ongoing Girls in ICT Open Day to gain knowledge of how technological companies operate in Ghana.
The visit, held on Wednesday, was to find practical solutions to everyday challenges through technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
During the visit, the Girls were introduced to the different sectors as well as their functions and benefits to the telecommunication infrastructure.
The beneficiaries were grouped into ten, and each group was assigned a task. Some of the topics included the development of a smart liquid level assistant for visually impaired people using AI and a human piano using Makey Makey.
The other groups were assigned with developing a concept such as a Rubik’s cube solver aimed at improving critical thinking skills, an automatic crane system for warehouses and factories.
This practical work helped test the girls’ knowledge of critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills and provided an opportunity to apply their knowledge obtained through Girls in ICT.
The visit to ATC will inspire the beneficiaries to explore diverse career paths in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), as well as emerging fields such as AI, software development and automation.
