How errand boy murdered Dr Jesse Amuah and his wife and now arrested for hiding in Dubai

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a key suspect in connection with the March 2026 murder of Accra-based medical practitioner Dr Jesse Amuah and his wife, Elizabeth Esi Amuah.

The suspect, 32-year-old Abraham Awondok, who previously worked as an errand boy for the couple, allegedly fled Ghana after the incident and went into hiding in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He was later arrested and deported to Ghana to assist with investigations.

According to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Awondok has admitted during interrogation to murdering Dr Amuah and his wife.

The couple was reported missing in March 2026 and their remains were subsequently discovered in April.

Giving an update at a press briefing on Monday, Mr Yohuno said investigations into the disappearance led the police to suspect that the couple had been murdered.

He said searches were conducted at their residence, other locations they were believed to have visited, as well as areas identified through information provided by family members. Their remains were eventually recovered and conveyed to the Police Hospital Morgue for preservation and autopsy.

“Investigations later established that suspect Abraham Awundok, who worked as an errand boy for the couple, had murdered them,” the IGP said.

He said the suspect allegedly took the couple’s mobile phones, money and private vehicle before leaving Ghana for the United Arab Emirates.

Mr Yohuno said Awondok was subsequently declared wanted through an INTERPOL Red Notice.

“On August 30, 2026, the suspect was deported from Dubai to Ghana by a team of investigators from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and INTERPOL.

“During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the murder. The suspect remains in Police custody as investigations continue,” he said.

The couple had reportedly not been seen or heard from since March 23, 2026. A complaint was lodged with the Police Missing Persons Unit on April 22 after their residence was found locked.

Their Nissan Sunny, with registration number GX 159-X, was also reported missing.

The disappearance prompted the arrest of 2 persons in connection with the case and the formation of a joint investigative team comprising personnel from the Missing Persons Unit, Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and Crime Scene Management Team.

The police later declared Awondok wanted through an INTERPOL Red Notice after establishing that he had left the country.

Following his deportation from Dubai on August 30, 2026, he reportedly admitted to murdering the couple during interrogation.

The couple’s vehicle has since been recovered, while the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Mr Yohuno said the arrest formed part of broader police efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating across the country.

He appealed to the public to provide information on suspects who remain at large by reporting to the nearest police station or calling the police emergency line 191.

He assured the public that all information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality.
