Why Tsito Is The Best Location For Ho West 24-Hour Economy Market – And Why We Must Support It

The decision by the Ho West District Assembly to site the 24-Hour Economy Model Market at Tsito is not just correct; it is strategic, visionary, and in the best interest of the entire district.

For some weeks, a few individuals have tried to turn this laudable national project into a needless controversy, with propaganda suggesting that the location was chosen for political reasons. This must stop. The facts are clear and public.

1. Tsito Met All the Ministry’s Criteria

The DCE, Hon. Francis Profer Dusey, has made it clear: The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs set the criteria — not the DCE, not the MP.

The criteria required a location with: a) Existing late-night economic activity b) Location on a main road with constant human and vehicular traffic c) Reliable electricity and telecommunication network d) Proximity to an existing market system

Which town in Ho West meets this better than Tsito? None.

Tsito is the gateway to Ho West. It lies on the main Accra–Ho highway, the busiest corridor in the Volta Region. Day and night, there is traffic. Tsito is the only town in the district where you can buy hot food, get transport, and buy basic items at 11 p.m., 1 a.m., and 4 a.m. That is a natural 24-hour economy already.

2. Economic Sense for the Whole District

Siting the market at Tsito does not mean the market is for Tsito alone. It is for Ho West.

Farmers from Abutia, Saviefe, Kpedze, Dzolokpuita, Dededo, Vane, and Avatime can easily transport their produce to Tsito and meet buyers from Accra, Ho, and beyond without paying extra fare to the Ho main market. It reduces post-harvest losses and increases income for our farmers.

This is exactly what the Feed Ghana Programme and the 24-Hour Economy Policy seek to achieve.

3. Land Was Voluntarily Provided

While in other districts the Assembly is struggling with land litigation and huge compensation bills, in Ho West, the Tsito Tsanu Dzan Family voluntarily offered 3.8 acres of land opposite Rams Hotel for development. This patriotic gesture should be commended, not attacked. To reject such an opportunity would have been a betrayal of development.

4. Transparency Has Been Ensured

The DCE confirmed that the criteria and location were presented at the General Assembly meeting, where all Assembly Members asked questions, participated in oversight visits, and met the contractor. This is not a secret project. The handover to the contractor was public.

Those who filed RTI requests are exercising their right, but let us not use RTI as a tool for delay. The Assembly should be supported to release the documents and move forward.

A Call to End Propaganda
To the few detractors: Ho West has been deprived of major market infrastructure for far too long. We have one chance to get a modern market with shops, storage facilities, a clinic, police and fire posts, a crèche, banking, and a 24-hour trading system. We should not kill it with pull-him-down attitudes and propaganda.

This market is not for NDC or NPP. It is not for Tsito alone. It is for the market woman at Dzolokpuita, the tomato farmer at Abutia, the youth who needs a shop to start a business, and the driver who needs a safe place to rest at night.

Let us support the DCE, support the MP, support the Assembly, and support President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to reset Ghana through the 24-Hour Economy.

Tsito is the best location. The facts support it. Let Ho West move forward.
