Open Letter To President John Dramani Mahama And The Minister For Education On The Distress Of Teachers Over The 2025 Promotion Placement

Mr. President and Honourable Minister,

I write this open letter with deep concern about the distress teachers across the country are going through under this administration.

Just imagine, teachers who passed their promotion examinations in 2025 are in total distress over placement onto their new salary grades.

For clarity, a process that was automatic in past years has been needlessly changed, causing pain and confusion.

Today, our teachers are in total disarray and left with no clear direction, with daily directives asking them to do one thing or the other just to be placed on their rightful grades. This is insensitive and unacceptable.

Mr. President, how long will your administration continue to take this noble profession for granted whenever you are at the helm of affairs?

To remind you, we have not forgotten the killer three-month pay policy introduced during your first term, which brought untold hardship to teachers across the country.

In fact, a profession that has played such an instrumental role in nurturing and educating Ghanaians deserves better and must not be treated so badly.

The question that begs for an answer is: why can't the government, the Ghana Education Service (GES), and the Ministry of Education take up this matter for immediate redress?

Unfortunately, the process surrounding the 2025 promotion exercise has been marred with errors and has cheated teachers on the substantive dates on their appointment letters.

Why all these avoidable errors? Or is it a deliberate attempt by the government to avoid paying the arrears due them?

In summary, Mr. President, this is highly disappointing, despicable, and disrespectful to the teaching profession.

We demand immediate action.
