Captain Smart urges MDCC members to take pride in 100-year Ghanaian heritage

Aspiring parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Captaine Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has urged members of the Musama Disco Christo Church (MDCC) to take pride in the church’s heritage as a Ghanaian-founded institution that has attained the 100-year milestone.

He made the call at a ceremony marking the church’s centenary anniversary alongside the 2026 Asemdwee Afe at the Gomoa Musano Auditorium on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Speaking on the theme, “Now May the Lord of Peace Himself Give You Peace” from 2 Thessalonians 3:16, Captain Smart highlighted the church’s contribution to peace and social cohesion, particularly within the Gomoa traditional area.

He said the MDCC had played an important role in promoting peace and development in the community and urged members to continue upholding the values associated with the church.

“The church has contributed enormously toward building a peaceful Ghana, especially for Gomoa land and its people,” he said.

Captain Smart also reflected on the significance of longevity and the large number of elderly members within the congregation, describing their presence as a blessing rather than a setback.

He encouraged younger members not to be discouraged by the church’s ageing population, arguing that the presence of many elderly congregants was evidence of longevity and peace.

“To have peace is to grow older,” he said. “When you belong to a church with many elderly members, it suggests you will also grow old.”

The comments attracted applause from the gathering.

Captain Smart further commended members for what he described as their modest and decent dressing, saying the tradition reflected values that deserved to be preserved.

He contrasted the church’s fashion culture with what he described as the increasingly revealing manner of dressing observed in some contemporary churches.

“The modesty and decency in your fashion sense is top-notch, and that tradition deserves applause,” he stressed.

A major highlight of the celebration was Captain Smart’s pledge to provide additional building materials to accelerate the completion of a clinic he had already initiated for the community.

He announced that the facility would be named the Akaboha Memorial Clinic in honour of the founder of the MDCC.

The programme ended with prayers and a special anointing for Captaine Smart by the leadership of the church, including Prophet Moknajeeba Jehu-Appiah, Akaboha IV.
