Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has stated that the government's 24-hour economy policy should not be interpreted as requiring every worker to work around the clock.

Dr. Pelpuo urged critics of the policy to study the policy more closely, arguing that it represents a broader restructuring of the economy rather than simply a “three people, one job” arrangement.

According to the Labour Minister, several businesses are already operating 24 hours, and the government's focus is to identify what support they need to expand operations and create more jobs.

Speaking to Citi News, the Minister explained that the policy is primarily aimed at energising the private sector and increasing production, while providing the necessary incentives, including reliable power supply, to businesses that need to operate for extended hours.

“It is part of the definition to talk about 1-in-3, but it’s bigger than that. The bigger portion of it is to energize the private sector to work 24 hours.

It’s not that simplistic that we want to see people working every day, so if a minister comes, another minister should come; that is a very simplistic way of looking at it. It’s bigger than that,” he said.
