'I have not been summoned by NPP MPs over Sammy Gyamfi’s allegations' – Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has denied reports that he has been summoned by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus to answer questions over allegations made against him by Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.

Afenyo-Markin and Sammy Gyamfi engaged in a public dispute over reported losses linked to the Domestic Gold Purchasing Programme operated through GoldBod by the Bank of Ghana.

GoldBod CEO has accused the Minority Leader of leading what he described as a smear campaign against him and linked the alleged campaign to claims of extortion.

However, Afenyo-Markin has rejected media reports that the NPP parliamentary caucus has summoned him over the allegations.

In a social media post on Monday, August 24, the Effutu MP described the reports as misleading and said the meeting with NPP MPs was part of the caucus’ routine preparations ahead of Parliament's reopening.

“Your report that I have been summoned is untrue,” Mr Afenyo-Markin said in relation to a news report by myjoyonline.com.

According to the Minority Leader, he had personally summoned his colleagues for a caucus meeting ahead of Parliament’s reconvening.

He explained that the meeting was intended to allow the caucus to strategise and coordinate its parliamentary business, as is routinely done before every parliamentary sitting.

“This is a regular practice of the Caucus and should not be misrepresented as anything else,” he said.
