Parliament reconvenes today for special sitting after Speaker Bagbin's recall

Parliament will today, Monday, August 24, resume sitting following a recall by Speaker Alban Bagbin to consider urgent parliamentary business.

The recall comes less than a month after the House adjourned on July 31, 2026, bringing Members of Parliament back from recess to address matters the Speaker considers too pressing to await the next scheduled sitting.

Speaker Bagbin invoked Order 58(4) of Parliament’s Standing Orders, which gives the Speaker the authority to recall the House during an adjournment when circumstances require Parliament to resume its proceedings.

The special sitting is scheduled to run from Monday, August 24, to Friday, August 28.

Among the matters expected to come before the House are the nominations of Mahama Ayariga as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.

The five-day sitting is expected to enable MPs to deliberate on the urgent matters for which the House has been recalled before returning to its regular parliamentary calendar.
