Bono Police Arrest 36‑Year‑Old in GH¢1.1M Fake Gold Deal; Hunt for Three Others Intensifies

The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested 36‑year‑old Gyamfi Christian, while three other accomplices remain at large, in connection with a GH¢1.1 million fake gold transaction involving a syndicate operating within the Berekum Municipality of the Bono Region.

Police say an intelligence‑led operation resulted in Gyamfi’s arrest on 17 August 2026 at his hideout in Wamfie in the Dormaa East District. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted his involvement and disclosed that the transaction occurred at Drobo in the Jaman South Municipality.

The case was filed by Christopher Awuni, 29, a gold aggregator, who told police that four men posing as gold sellers sold him 110 troy ounces of gold for GH¢1.1 million in July 2026. The gold was later discovered to be fake and has since been retained as an exhibit.

A press release signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah noted that preliminary investigations have also revealed that the same group allegedly defrauded another victim of GH¢1.4 million in Drobo earlier this year.

Gyamfi is in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to track down the remaining suspects.

The Bono Regional Police Command is urging the public to exercise extreme caution when engaging in gold transactions and to promptly report suspicious activities.
