Three Robbery Suspects Shot Dead, One Arrested After GH¢430k MoMo Heist at Buipe Cattle Market

Three suspected members of a robbery gang have been shot dead in a police operation, while another has been arrested in connection with the GH¢430,000 robbery of two Mobile Money vendors at the Buipe Cattle Market in the Savannah Region.

In a Facebook update on Friday, August 21, police said the incident occurred on June 29, 2026, when four armed men attacked the vendors and fled with the cash after firing sporadically. The gang was reportedly armed with two pump‑action guns, a single‑barrel gun and an AK‑47 rifle.

Following the robbery, the Inspector‑General of Police deployed the Anti‑Armed Robbery Unit to support the Savannah Regional Command in tracking down the suspects.

A 28‑year‑old suspect, Yacouba Oumar, was arrested at Soronuase in the Bono East Region on July 23 after sustained surveillance by the Anti‑Armed Robbery Unit and the Police Intelligence Directorate, with support from the Kintampo Divisional Command.

Police say Oumar admitted taking part in the robbery and named three alleged accomplices: Yakubu Seidu (alias Baba), Abdulai Aziz Yahaya (alias Addo), and Abduli Buipe (alias Addo).

Investigations led officers to Atebubu, Soronuase, Agogo and Dawadawa, where the suspects and their weapons were believed to be hiding. An exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the deaths of Yakubu Seidu, Abdulai Aziz Yahaya and Oumaro Amadu.

Their bodies have been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Police recovered one pump‑action gun with five live BB cartridges and a single‑barrel gun believed to have been used in the robbery.

The arrested suspect, Oumar, remains in custody assisting investigations. Police are also pursuing an alleged mastermind identified as Alhaji Yacouba, also known as Masaji, Muimen or Yakubu, who is believed to have contracted the gang to carry out the robbery.

Efforts are underway to arrest him and other individuals suspected to be connected to the GH¢430,000 heist.
