Farmers in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region have received 1,200 bags of NPK fertiliser under the government’s Free Fertiliser Initiative being implemented through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA).

The fertiliser is being distributed through 126 registered farmer-based organisations across the district as part of efforts to support agricultural production, improve crop yields and reduce the financial burden on farmers.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to revitalise the agricultural sector, increase productivity and strengthen food security by providing farmers with essential inputs.

Performing the distribution ceremony at Akumadan, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Offinso North, Hon. Caeser Ofosu Acheampong, said the intervention demonstrated the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and strengthening the agricultural sector.

He said the provision of free fertiliser was intended to reduce farmers’ production costs while increasing food production in the district and the country as a whole.

“Government is distributing the fertiliser free of charge to support our farmers, boost agricultural production and also reduce the burden on them,” he stated.

Hon. Acheampong explained that the distribution had been structured to promote fairness and transparency and ensure that the inputs reached their intended beneficiaries.

According to him, the 1,200 bags had been handed over to the leadership of the 126 registered farmer-based organisations for onward distribution to their respective members.

He, however, cautioned beneficiaries against selling the fertiliser, stressing that the input was provided specifically to support agricultural production.

The DCE said the Assembly would continue to collaborate with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and other stakeholders to ensure that government interventions in the agricultural sector achieved their intended objectives.

He encouraged farmers to make effective use of the fertiliser to improve productivity and contribute to increased food production in the district.
