The Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, Nikyema Billa Alamzy, has supported 350 tertiary students in the constituency with a total of GH¢350,000 to assist them with their educational expenses.

Each beneficiary received GH¢1,000 from the MP’s Common Fund as part of his commitment to supporting tertiary students and easing the financial burden on families.

The number of beneficiaries has increased significantly from 169 students who benefited from the initiative last year to 350 this year.

Speaking at the presentation, the Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dickson B. Adiali Ayagitam, urged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and make good use of the opportunity provided to them.

He also cautioned the students against drug abuse, stressing that such practices could negatively affect their education, health and future prospects.

The Presiding Member, Roland Welagetin, also encouraged the beneficiaries to remain focused on their studies and expressed appreciation to the MP for the initiative.

He commended Mr. Alamzy for ensuring transparency in the selection process and urged the students to pray for the MP, the District Chief Executive and the government to enable them to continue supporting young people in the constituency.

The District Chief Executive, Stephen Akurugo, expressed his appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a reflection of the government’s commitment to investing in education.

He noted that the MP had provided similar financial support to tertiary students the previous year and continued to demonstrate his commitment to education through investments in educational infrastructure.

Among the projects he cited were the renovation of Tedam JHS ‘A’, Kandiga Primary School and Katiu Primary School.

Mr. Akurugo assured the MP of his support in approving any memoranda he presents for investments in education and other sectors of the constituency.

He also joined the call for students to stay away from drug abuse, warning that the practice could have serious consequences for their education and future.

The MP, Nikyema Billa Alamzy, urged the beneficiaries to study hard and aspire to become future leaders who would contribute meaningfully to the development of the country.

Mr. Alamzy disclosed that he had not personally added a single student to the list of 350 beneficiaries, explaining that the selection was undertaken by branches within the various communities.

According to him, the approach was adopted to ensure that beneficiaries were selected at the grassroots level and that the support reached students who needed it.

He said the increase from 169 beneficiaries last year to 350 this year demonstrated his commitment to expanding the programme.

The MP pledged to increase the number of beneficiaries to 500 next year as part of efforts to extend educational support to more tertiary students in the constituency.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the GH¢1,000 for its intended purpose and avoid spending the money on activities that would not contribute to their education and personal development.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Mr. Alamzy for the support, saying the GH¢1,000 each would help ease some of the financial challenges associated with tertiary education and enable them to meet important academic needs.
