ISD Director commends award-winning staff for excellence in public service

The Director of the Information Services Department (ISD), Dr Nafisa Mahama, has commended two officers of the Department for their diligence and positive work attitude after they were honoured at the 2025 Civil Service Awards in Accra.

The two officers, Peter Atogewe Wedam, Municipal Information Officer at the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly in the Upper East Region, and Ophelia Opokua Yamoah of the Records Office at the ISD Headquarters, were among about 100 civil and public servants recognised for outstanding performance during the 2025 service year.

Dr Mahama commended the officers for their commitment to duty and urged them to sustain and improve their performance after returning to their respective workplaces.

She gave the advice during a brief interaction with the awardees at her office before leading them to the awards ceremony held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

The annual Civil Service Awards scheme, organised under the auspices of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service (OHCS), recognises officers who demonstrate strong performance and commitment in the discharge of their responsibilities during a particular service year.

The 2025 awards ceremony was held under the theme, “The Resetting Agenda for Sustainable Development in Ghana: The Civil Service’s Responsibilities.”

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour, Vice President of the Republic, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, congratulated the award recipients for their performance and encouraged other civil servants who were not recognised to remain motivated and improve their work.

She said the Civil Service could not be built and sustained by award-winning officers alone but required the collective efforts of the entire workforce.

“When excellence is acknowledged, it rewards those who have given their best, but it also inspires others and sends a clear message about the values an institution chooses to uphold,” Professor Opoku Agyemang said.

She stated the awards would help foster a performance-driven culture across the Civil Service and urged all staff to support the implementation of the government’s Resetting Ghana Agenda.

“The success of the Resetting Ghana Agenda will depend in no small measure on the Civil Service. I therefore urge all Civil Service staff to come fully on board,” she said.

Earlier, the Head of the Civil Service, Dr Evans Aggrey Darkoh, said the government’s Reset Agenda required civil servants to abandon “business as usual” and place citizens at the centre of public service delivery.

He urged workers to uphold higher standards of integrity, innovation and efficiency in carrying out their daily duties.

The recognition of the two ISD officers adds to the Department’s contribution to the annual Civil Service Awards and reflects the importance of effective information dissemination and records management in public administration.
