Swedruman Council of Chiefs and Elders Holds Awards Day to Honour Distinguished Personalities in Agona Swedru

The Agona Swedruman Council of Chiefs and Elders last Thursday honoured several distinguished personalities, including the Agona West Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Bismark Mfaafo Offei, in recognition of his remarkable achievements and contributions to education within the Agona West Municipal Education Directorate.

The honour was conferred during the Agona 2026 Bangye Programme, organised to usher in the New Year. The awards celebrated leadership, dedication, and commitment to improving education, enhancing healthcare delivery, and strengthening security within the Municipality.

The Regent of Agona Swedru, Nana Kweku Essieni V, speaking on behalf of the Swedruman Council of Chiefs and Elders, expressed appreciation for the awardees’ service and wished them continued success in their future endeavours.

Other award recipients included the Best Performing Student in the 2025 BECE, Miss Adarkwah Animah of Agona Swedru AMA ‘E’ School. The 2025 Best Performing School Award also went to Agona Swedru AMA ‘E’ School. The Outstanding Personality in Health Delivery Award was presented to Dr. Julius Abuku, Municipal Medical Officer at the Swedru Government Hospital. Additionally, the Swedru Divisional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Douglas Kuma, was honoured for promoting security within Agona Swedru and its surrounding communities.

Addressing a durbar organised earlier by the Council, Nana Kweku Essieni V disclosed that the Annual Awards Day was instituted to encourage individuals excelling in their respective fields of work.

He acknowledged the contributions of the awardees to the growth of the township, noting that their collaborative efforts have uplifted the well‑being of residents in Agona Swedru and Agonaman as a whole.

Nana Kweku Essieni V further stated that the Swedruman Council of Chiefs and Elders is partnering with organisations and institutions to ensure improvement in the local economy. He praised the Church of Pentecost, Agona Swedru Area, for supporting Nananom in efforts to sustain the image of the town, which has become a hub for business activities.

The Regent, who also serves as the Nifahene of Agona Swedru, called for urgent action against noise pollution caused by Okada riders, especially at night, which he said deprives residents of sound sleep. He also urged family heads to adhere to the directive that expensive funerals will not be entertained by Nananom, stressing that funds spent on lavish funerals could be better invested in children’s education.
