The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon.Kofi Iddie Adams, has assured Ampem Dakoa Ladies of the Ministry’s support as the club prepares to represent Ghana at the WAFU Zone B tournament in Burkina Faso.
Mr Adams gave the assurance when the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Football Association, Madam Rashida Hassan, together with Rabiatu Abubakar and the team manager, Nana Kwame Effah, paid him a courtesy call.
The delegation presented the Women’s League Championship trophy to the Minister and officially announced the team’s participation in the WAFU Zone B tournament.
Mr Adams congratulated Ampem Dakoa Ladies on winning the Women’s League Championship and securing the opportunity to represent Ghana at the regional competition.
He said Ghana had considerable potential in women’s football, with talented players capable of competing at the highest level.
According to him, increased investment and support could help develop women’s football to a level comparable to the men’s game.
The Minister acknowledged the challenges involved in managing women’s football and said government was committed to investing in sports through the Sports Fund, provided resources were properly allocated.
He said directives had been issued to review the national lottery system to ensure that it contributes more effectively to the Sports Fund and supports the development of various sporting disciplines, including women’s football.
Mr Adams also commended the Ghana Football Association for its efforts to strengthen women’s football and assured the Association of the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate further.
He wished Ampem Dakoa Ladies success in the WAFU Zone B tournament and said the Ministry would engage the team soon on additional support for the development of women’s football across the country.
