Roads Minister assures progress on Navrongo-Chuchuliga-Tumu road projects

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has pledged government’s commitment to completing the Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Tumu Road project, assuring stakeholders that payment challenges which previously stalled progress have now been resolved.

During the President’s Resetting Ghana tour on Thursday, the Minister briefed him on progress, noting that contractor MyTurn Construction had faced delays due to arrears.

He explained that, following a presidential directive, government has paid GH¢23.1 billion to clear arrears and support ‘Big Push’ contractors, enabling work to resume.”

He noted that the bulk of this amount went into clearing arrears, making the current administration the one that has settled the largest portion of contractor debts in Ghana’s history.

“Government is not only continuing projects it inherited but also undertaking new ones across the country,” the Minister stated, assuring residents that in the coming months, many roads of concern will receive attention, with contractors returning to site.

Mr Agbodza disclosed that the Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Tumu Road will be extended all the way to Wiesi, and was confident that the contractor could finish ahead of schedule.

“Frankly speaking, they would have gone much further than this by now, but the problem was payment. Whatever indebtedness we had to them has been cleared so far, and it is reflected in the amount of work they are doing on site,” he said.

The Minister added that other contractors working along the corridor to Wa are already on site, with some sections around Pramasil completed. He projected that several of these projects could be finished by the end of this year or early next year.

“Once completed, the project will resolve the long-standing problem of the deteriorated road between Bolgatanga and Wa, making the corridor safe and passable for all,” he concluded.
