Ghana Maritime Authority pushes maritime single window

The Deputy Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Mubarick Masawudu, has welcomed actionable proposals from the second Just-In-Time (JIT) Sailing/Port Call Optimisation Workshop and emphasised the need for their effective implementation.

Speaking during the workshop at MPS Terminal 3, he noted the importance of establishing a Maritime Single Window to facilitate seamless electronic processing and information exchange among maritime stakeholders.

Mr Masawudu stated that the GMA would pursue the necessary legislative instruments to support its successful rollout, positioning Ghana’s maritime sector to align with international best practices.

He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to promoting efficiency, innovation, and digital transformation, describing the workshop as an innovation process aimed at improving port operations.

The Director of Tema Port, Tebon Zumah, mentioned the importance of embracing the transition towards green energy, stating that no stakeholder should be left behind.

He noted that greater efficiency would be critical to keeping industry players competitive and sustainable, and called for the application of Just-In-Time sailing measures across all terminals at Tema Port and at Takoradi Port.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders including the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Ghana Revenue Authority – Customs Division, Port Health, Ghana Immigration Service, Meridian Port Services (MPS), and shipping lines and agents.

Discussions also focused on tackling delays in Port Health processes, tug and pilot operations, berth allocation, customs clearance, and vessel arrival and departure procedures, with practical interventions identified to improve vessel turnaround time.
