Ato Forson hands over Defence Ministry to Kenneth Gilbert Adjei

Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has formally handed over the administration of the Ministry of Defence to Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, ending his tenure as caretaker Defence Minister.

Dr Ato Forson took charge of the Defence Ministry following the death of the substantive minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, in the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

For the past year, he has overseen the ministry while continuing to serve as Minister for Finance and lead the government’s economic management efforts.

The transition took place on Friday, August 14, 2026, with Dr Ato Forson and Mr Adjei signing the necessary documents to formalise the change in leadership.

Mr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei will now assume full responsibility for the Defence Ministry, including its day-to-day administration, policy direction and other matters relating to the defence and security sector.

The handover is also expected to allow Dr Ato Forson to focus exclusively on his duties at the Finance Ministry as the government continues to implement its economic reform programme.
