The Paramount Chief of the Paga Traditional Area, Pe Charles Awiah Awampaga II, has appealed to the government to address the congestion of fuel tankers in Paga and Navrongo, warning that the situation is creating fear among residents.

According to the Paga Pio, the Customs Division at the Paga border does not have adequate parking space to accommodate the large number of fuel tankers that pass through the area.

He said the concentration of highly inflammable fuel trucks within the border community posed a potential threat to public safety and had left residents increasingly concerned.

The Paga Pio made the appeal during President John Dramani Mahama’s Resetting Ghana tour of the Upper East Region.

He called on the President to expand the Customs Division’s premises to provide sufficient parking space for the trucks and help reduce the safety risks associated with their congestion in the area.

Responding to the concern, President Mahama assured the traditional ruler that the government would examine the situation and take appropriate measures to address the safety challenges.

During the visit, President Mahama also commissioned the Paga Community Day Senior High School.

The President announced plans to upgrade the school into a boarding institution and construct additional dormitory facilities to improve accommodation for students.

He also promised to provide the school with a 60-seater bus to support teaching and learning as well as sporting activities.

President Mahama further assured residents that the government would take steps to address the deteriorating bridges in the area to improve transportation and connectivity.
