Adonten Division destools Aduaben Krontihene on Asantehene’s directive

The Adonten Division of the Kumasi Traditional Council has destooled the Krontihene of Aduaben in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region, Nana Kwabena Appiah Kubi, following a directive from the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The destoolment was carried out during the divisional meeting held in Kumasi on Thursday, August 13, 2026, presided over by the head of the Adonten Division, Nana Adu Gyamfi.

In accordance with tradition, his traditional sandals, known locally as 'Kyawkyaw', were removed to signify his loss of authority.

He was also cautioned not to set foot in Aduaben, with the council warning that failure to comply would attract serious consequences.

The pronouncement was delivered by the Chief of Amakom, Nana Adu Mensah Asare, who is the second in command of the Adonten Division.

He said all the necessary traditional rites associated with the destoolment had been performed in accordance with the directive of the Asantehene.

Nana Kwabena Appiah Kubi was originally enstooled by the Adontenhene, Nana Adu Gyamfi, to oversee the day-to-day affairs of Aduaben until a new queen mother was enstooled.

However, following the enstoolment of Nana Ama Kyifa II as the Queen Mother of Aduaben by the Asantehene on August 14, 2023, the Krontihene was accused of continuing to present himself as the caretaker of the area.

Nana Kwabena Appiah Kubi was involved in the sale of parcels of land and the issuance of forged allocation documents to prospective land buyers.

According to the Chief of Amakom, “attempts by the new queen mother and the Adonten Division to stop the alleged activities were unsuccessful, prompting the matter to be taken before the Kumasi Traditional Council.”

At a meeting of the Kumasi Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace on Thursday, August 6, 2026, the Asantehene directed Nana Adu Mensah Asare to ensure the removal of Nana Kwabena Appiah Kubi.

The Asantehene, according to Nana Adu Mensah Asare, also clarified that Nana Adu Gyamfi had no traditional jurisdiction over Aduaben, “rendering the enstoolment of Nana Kwabena Appiah Kubi as Krontihene null and void”.

Otumfuo Kyeame Panin, Baffour Kwaku Amoateng IV, who is also the Chief of Jachie, during the destoolment of the Krontihene, subsequently reminded Nana Adu Gyamfi of the directive.

“The Asantehene made it clear that Adontenhene Nana Adu Gyamfi has no traditional juridiction at Aduaben," Baffour Kwaku Amoateng IV emphasised.

Meanwhile, Nana Opoku Gyawu, the Adontenhene’s chief linguist, was appointed as a liaison chief between the Adonten Division and Aduaben, but with no authority to interfere in the internal affairs of the community.
