NACOC receives IT equipment to strengthen intelligence and anti-drug operations

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has received a donation of information technology equipment from Mood Digital Services Ltd (MDSL) to improve its intelligence-gathering capabilities and strengthen its operations across the country.

The donation supports the Commission's IT-led operations and efforts to disrupt narcotic-related cyber activities.

The items donated included 50 HP laptops, an industrial printer, two servers, two 2000VA UPS units, five projectors, a drone with a drone bag, four all-in-one computers, ten 1200VA UPS units and five iPads.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Commission, the Director-General of NACOC, Maj. Gen. Maxwell Obuba Mantey, expressed appreciation to the management of MDSL for the support.

He said the equipment would significantly enhance the Commission's operational strategies and assured that the items would be effectively utilised to advance NACOC's mandate.

Maj. Gen. Obuba Mantey noted that illicit drug trafficking and abuse continue to evolve, with criminal networks increasingly exploiting digital platforms and cyber channels to facilitate their activities.

He described the trend as a major concern and reiterated the Commission's commitment to intensifying efforts to combat drug trafficking and related offences.

The Director-General further appealed to corporate institutions and other stakeholders to partner with NACOC in addressing the growing threat posed by drug trafficking networks through similar forms of support.

The Chief Executive Officer of Mood Digital Services Ltd, Mr Daniel Afari, noted the importance of collaboration in helping the Commission achieve its mandate.

He indicated that the company's support would be sustained and extended to NACOC's Regional Commands through the provision of additional technological assistance to strengthen the Commission's IT capacity.

Mr Afari also announced MDSL's intention to continue partnering with NACOC, particularly by providing technical and logistical support for the Commission's proposed mandatory drug testing exercise.
