Ghanaian-owned mining company Maripoma has donated 500 bags of fertilizer to farmers in selected communities in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region to support them during the current farming season.
The beneficiary communities are Binaba, Kusanaba and Zongoiri.
The donation forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at supporting communities and contributing to local development.
Maripoma is expected to commence mining operations at a concession in Bulinga in the Bawku West District. The company, which operates in civil engineering and construction, said it remains committed to supporting communities within its areas of operation.
Presenting the fertilizer, Richard Danso, Human Resource Manager of Maripoma Civil Engineering and Construction Company, said the gesture was intended to help farmers improve their crop yields and reduce some of the challenges associated with the high cost of farm inputs.
He said the donation demonstrated the important role the private sector could play in supporting communities and improving livelihoods.
Mr Danso also called on other corporate organisations to support development initiatives in the Bawku West District.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the district, the District Chief Executive for Bawku West, James Ayamweogo, expressed appreciation to Maripoma for the timely intervention.
He said the fertilizer would help cushion farmers during the farming season and assured the company that the items would be distributed appropriately to the intended beneficiaries.
Mr Ayamweogo further stated that the district remained open to partnerships with companies and organisations willing to contribute to the development of Bawku West.
Some of the beneficiaries also expressed gratitude to Maripoma, saying the rising cost of agricultural inputs had made farming increasingly difficult.
They said the fertilizer would provide significant relief and help them improve production during the current farming season.
