Sports Minister Calls on Corporate Ghana to Invest in Cycling Development

The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has called on corporate Ghana to invest in cycling as a long-term venture that can promote health, youth development, tourism and sustainable development.

He made the call at the launch of the sixth edition of the 3FM Tour du Ghana, where he said greater investment and early support could help expand cycling and increase its contribution to national development.

He stated that Ghana could develop the Tour du Ghana into an internationally recognised cycling event capable of attracting cyclists and tourists from around the world.

“The mountains, coastlines, valleys, and lively communities across Ghana provide a stunning backdrop for a world-class cycling tour,” he said.

He said international visitors could ride through Ghana’s scenic routes, experience its culture and support businesses in communities along the various routes.

Mr Adams noted that the development of sports tourism through cycling could create opportunities for the hospitality, transport, food and retail sectors.

“The true value of the Tour will be reflected in the positive impact on our local economies and communities,” he said.

The Minister said he was committed to working with stakeholders to build the international appeal of the Tour du Ghana and position the country as a destination for cycling and sports tourism.

He also called for sustained investment and partnerships between the government, corporate sector, sports federations and the media to support the growth of cycling.

Mr Adams commended the partnership between Media General and the Ghana Cycling Federation, saying the collaboration provided a strong platform for the development of the sport.

“Media General’s dedication of platforms, resources, and expertise, combined with the federation’s technical skills, is crucial in building a resilient and thriving sport ecosystem,” he added.

The launch brought together stakeholders from the sports sector, corporate Ghana, the media and the cycling community, who expressed their commitment to supporting the growth of cycling in Ghana.
