Bawku’s Longest‑serving Police Officer? Why Commodore’s Dedication Deserves Promotion

As calm gradually returns to Bawku after nearly five years of conflict, it is also time to acknowledge the sacrifices of the security personnel who stood firm through one of the most turbulent periods in the municipality’s history.

Among them is Commodore, widely regarded as one of the longest‑serving police officers in Bawku.

Originally from the Greater Accra Region, Commodore was posted to Bawku before the conflict reignited in 2021. While many officers were transferred, completed their postings or were redeployed as tensions escalated, he remained at his post — serving the municipality before, during and after the violence.

Even when police officers became targets of attacks, leading to the withdrawal of almost every officer at the time, Commodore stayed.

For nearly five years, Bawku endured recurring gun battles, deadly ambushes and heightened insecurity. Throughout this period, Commodore continued to discharge his duties despite the enormous risks associated with policing one of Ghana’s most volatile conflict zones.

His service went far beyond routine policing.

At the height of the violence, Commodore was among the officers who retrieved and carried the bodies of victims killed in attacks. It was a traumatic and dangerous responsibility, carried out under the constant threat of renewed gunfire — a task that demanded exceptional courage, emotional strength and unwavering commitment.

While several officers passed through Bawku during the conflict, Commodore remained, gaining invaluable experience and a deep understanding of the municipality’s security dynamics. His resilience and dedication have made him one of the officers most closely associated with policing in Bawku over the years.

Today, with calm gradually returning after years of turmoil, Bawku is entering a new chapter. The contributions of officers who risked their lives to protect residents must not go unnoticed.

Dear IGP, honour him. He has earned it.
