Seven police officers sustained injuries after the service bus they were travelling in was involved in a road crash at Akrofoase Mampong in the Ashanti Region.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the accident occurred on Sunday when the police bus reportedly veered off the road and plunged into a ditch along the roadside.
The incident drew a large crowd of residents and passers-by, while Good Samaritans assisted in rescuing the injured officers and transporting them to a nearby health facility, where they received medical treatment.
The GNFS said firefighters also responded to another road traffic accident at Senfi, near the Police Barrier, involving a Kia Rhino truck and a Howo fuel tanker.
The collision left two people injured, and they were subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
Confirming the two incidents in a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the GNFS said firefighters responded promptly to both emergencies.
“In separate incidents, firefighters responded to road crashes at Akrofoase Mampong and Senfi near the Police Barrier.
“A Ghana Police Service bus skidded into a ditch, leaving seven police officers injured, while a collision involving a Kia Rhino truck and a Howo petrol tanker injured two people.
“In both cases, the injured were taken to hospital for treatment, while the causes of the accidents remain under investigation,” the Service stated.
The Fire Service also disclosed that its personnel responded to a hazardous chemical incident at Konongo after a cargo truck carrying hydrogen peroxide developed a leak, producing thick smoke following a chemical reaction.
Firefighters managed to contain the situation by cooling the container and diluting the leaking substance, preventing the incident from escalating.
“No casualties were recorded, although part of the chemical cargo was damaged,” the GNFS added.
The Service said investigations are underway to establish the causes of the two road crashes.
