The Head of the Civil Service, Dr Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, has launched the 2026 Civil Service Week Celebration and the 2025 Civil Service Awards Ceremony, urging public servants to embrace innovation, accountability and professionalism to advance Ghana’s sustainable development agenda.
The celebration is on the theme: “The Resetting Agenda for Sustainable Development in Ghana: The Civil Service’s Responsibilities.”
Speaking at the press launch on Tuesday in Accra, Dr Aggrey-Darkoh said the Civil Service Week had become one of the most important events on the service’s calendar, providing an opportunity to celebrate hardworking civil servants, engage citizens, showcase the work of the Civil Service and strengthen partnerships for national development.
He noted that this year’s celebration came at a critical period when Government was implementing reforms aimed at restoring economic stability, strengthening public institutions, accelerating sustainable development and improving the living conditions of Ghanaians.
According to him, these national aspirations required a Civil Service that was agile, innovative, responsive, accountable and capable of delivering measurable results.
“The successful formulation and implementation of government policies and programmes depend largely on the effectiveness, professionalism and commitment of the Civil Service,” he said.
Dr Aggrey-Darkoh called on civil servants across the country to uphold integrity, embrace innovation and continuously improve service delivery to support Government’s resetting agenda.
He stressed that the Civil Service remained the critical link between government policy decisions and their implementation, adding that every policy formulated and every programme executed had a direct impact on the lives of citizens.
He highlighted several reforms undertaken to modernise public administration, including the digitalisation of government services, implementation of electronic records management systems, expansion of digital correspondence management platforms and improvements in passport service delivery.
Dr Aggrey-Darkoh further cited ongoing public financial management reforms, procurement improvements and institutional strengthening measures aimed at promoting fiscal discipline, enhancing budget management and improving transparency in government operations.
On digital transformation, he disclosed that the Government, through the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, in collaboration with development partners, had organised Artificial Intelligence (AI) capacity-building programmes for ministers, chief directors and civil servants to equip them with the knowledge and skills required to harness emerging technologies in public service delivery.
Dr Aggrey-Darkoh reaffirmed the Civil Service’s commitment to building a technologically competent workforce capable of responding to the evolving demands of governance while ensuring the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence.
A Chief Director in the Civil Service, Ambassador Sena Siaw Boateng, said the theme for this year’s celebration reflected Government’s commitment to strengthening governance, restoring public confidence in state institutions and accelerating inclusive national development.
She said the week-long celebration would showcase ongoing reforms, institutional innovations and best practices that were positioning the Civil Service to respond effectively to emerging national challenges.
Ambassador Boateng noted that the programme would also provide a platform for government institutions, development partners, academia, civil society and the private sector to exchange ideas, strengthen collaboration and promote innovation in public service delivery.
She said the 2025 Civil Service Awards Ceremony, which would climax the celebration, would recognise outstanding performance, innovation, dedication and ethical leadership among civil servants.
She urged all civil servants to actively engage in the various activities and contribute ideas that would support the development of an agile, accountable, inclusive and future-ready Civil Service.
