Four arrested for GH¢94,530 gold robbery

Four notorious armed robbers who were bent on attacking and robbing gold dealers at Wassa Akropong at gunpoint in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region have been arrested.

The Western Central Regional Police Command arrested the four, who are suspected to be members of a robbery syndicate.

Members of the syndicate are believed to be responsible for the violent attack and robbery at Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area.

The arrest followed a robbery incident reported on March 11, 2026 at 11:00 p.m.

The complainant, Orls Oduro, reported that after closing his gold buying shop, he hired an ‘Okada’ rider to transport him to his residence at Wassa Akropong.

While on their way, they were attacked by armed men who robbed them at gunpoint.

A statement issued by the police noted that some items retrieved from the suspects included cash amount of GHc24,000, seven pounds, and six matches of gold valued at GH¢94,530.

The police also retrieved one iPhone and a Techno phone. Following the report, police immediately commenced investigations into the incident and the suspects were later arrested.

Their names were given as Kwabena Amuah, 25, alias “IK”; Mohammed Nasir, 28, alias “Mallam”; Samuel Agyei, 24, alias “Okese-1”; and Kofi Gyasi, 26, alias “Brefo.”

The suspects have since been arraigned and remanded into police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

The police indicated that efforts are underway to arrest another suspect, identified only as “Agogo,” who remains at large.

The police reaffirmed its committed to protecting lives and property as well as ensuring that all perpetrators of crime are dealt with according to the law.
