GNFS launches digital fire safety system, makes AFCAS registration mandatory for contractors

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has announced the commencement of the pilot phase of its Automated Fire Compliance and Safety System (AFCAS), with mandatory registration for all existing and prospective fire protection contractors in the country.

The digital platform is part of the Service’s broader digital transformation agenda aimed at improving fire safety regulation, monitoring and compliance among businesses, individuals and service providers.

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 30, the GNFS said registration on the AFCAS platform will become a requirement for fire safety service providers seeking to participate in fire safety activities in Ghana.

“The AFCAS platform has been developed to help achieve the objectives of the GNFS and to enhance enforcement, monitoring, and the general administration of fire safety in Ghana. The platform is expected to improve service delivery, strengthen regulatory compliance, and facilitate efficient collaboration between the GNFS and all licensed service providers," the statement read in part.

The Service said registration on the platform will begin on Monday, August 3, at 9:00am, with applicants expected to access the portal through www.afcas.gov.gh.

The GNFS explained that the system was developed in line with the Fire Precaution (Premises) Regulations, 2003 (LI 1724), as amended by the 2016 regulations (LI 2249), to streamline fire safety processes across the country.

It added that an information brochure has been uploaded on the platform to guide users on the registration process, objectives, benefits and operational procedures.

“Registration is mandatory and is a prerequisite for continued participation in all fire safety activities in Ghana," stressed the service.

The GNFS urged all stakeholders to cooperate as it pilots the initiative, which it said will strengthen fire safety compliance and improve collaboration between the Service and licensed fire safety providers.

The Service further encouraged prospective users who require clarification on the registration process to contact its designated support lines for assistance.
