Integrity must begin with MPs, Parliament — Speaker Bagbin

Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has urged Members of Parliament to uphold the highest standards of integrity.

Mr. Bagbin made the remarks at the launch of the National Integrity Awards Scheme at the D.F. Annan Auditorium in Parliament on Monday, July 27.

The former lawmaker stated that the newly launched National Integrity Awards Scheme will begin with Parliament itself.

He advised Members who may want to seek reelected to let integrity be there hallmark.

"We start implementing it here. And those of you who want to go and contest again, you better imbibe this. If not, before you go, the Speaker has finished you at your constituency. I know this scheme must be administered with great care, fairness, responsibility, and due regard to law."

The Speaker further emphasised that integrity should never be used as a tool for arbitrary action and noted that accountability must always be guided by justice, truth, equity and due process.

He expressed confidence that the scheme would strengthen ethical conduct in public service and encourage leaders to demonstrate integrity in both their official duties and public lives.
