V/R: Suspected intruder rescued after residents’ attack at Glikpome

Residents of Glikpome in the Akatsi South Municipality have apprehended a young man suspected of unlawfully occupying an apartment in a storey building after he allegedly posed as a worker assigned by the property owner.

An eyewitness, popularly known in the area as “Atsu,” told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the young man had been staying in the apartment while claiming that the landlord, who currently lives outside the Region, had assigned him to undertake some work at the facility.

He said the residents, after contacting the landlord to verify the claim, were informed that no worker had been sent to the house.

According to “Atsu,” residents became suspicious after closely monitoring the activities of the young man, leading to his discovery inside the apartment.

He said the residents were also surprised at how the young man managed to gain access to the house, which is a walled and gated property.

The eyewitness said some residents suspected that the locks at the main gate might have been allegedly broken before the young man gained entry.

The young man, whose name on his Ghana Card was found to be Bismark Fortune, was rescued by the timely intervention of the Akatsi South Police Command after he was severely beaten by some residents during the incident.

He was subsequently handed over to the Abor Police Station for investigations to continue.

However, in an attempt by the Ghana News Agency to establish the circumstances surrounding his presence in the apartment, the young man gave varying explanations that require further scrutiny.

The Abor Police Station is yet to disclose further details of the incident to the Ghana News Agency.
