French police on Monday detained a man who attacked three women with a knife near Porte de Clichy in the north of Paris.
The assault on the women aged 19, 24 and 36 took place at around 11:30am (09:30GMT), with the attacker wielding two kitchen knives as weapons. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez told reporters at a news conference that two of the three women were severely wounded but said their lives were not in danger.
Nunez said the man had been apprehended by an off-duty police officer. "I pay tribute to him, it was a courageous act," he added.
The identity of the suspect and his motive remain unclear.
