Berlin Police Hunt Islamist Suspect After Deadly Pride Attack

Berlin police have released the image of a 21‑year‑old Islamist suspect wanted in connection with Saturday night’s deadly attack at the city’s Pride celebrations, where a vehicle ploughed into revellers, killing one person and injuring more than a dozen.

In an online appeal on Sunday, officers urged the public to help locate the man, identified as Abdul B, noting that it remains unclear whether he acted alone. Witness accounts suggest more than one person may have exited the vehicle after it came to a halt near the iconic Brandenburg Gate.

Authorities confirmed that three of the 16 injured victims are in critical condition, with some suffering stab wounds, according to police and emergency responders.

Organisers of Christopher Street Day, Berlin’s annual LGBTQ Pride celebration, cancelled the remainder of the event following the attack.

Police described the suspect as slim, about 1.90 metres (6ft 2), with black hair, last seen wearing a black hoodie and white trousers. They said he is associated with the “Islamist spectrum.”

Key details remain murky. While police initially described the vehicle only vaguely, German tabloid Bild reported it was a white Citroën SpaceTourer, allegedly rented by Abdul B. The outlet also said police are searching for a second suspected attacker.

Investigators say the vehicle eventually came to a stop in Tiergarten park.

A police spokesperson said the vehicle drove into the park around 10 p.m., injuring several people before crashing into a tree.
