Chieftaincy, Tradition and Culture Nanumba North MCE Begs Mahama: “Use Dagbon Peace Formula to Settle Nanung Chieftaincy Dispute”

Municipal Chief Executive for Nanumba North, Abdul-Samed Hamza, is appealing to President John Dramani Mahama to deploy the same successful peace-building strategy used to resolve the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis to finally settle the longstanding Nanung chieftaincy dispute.

He says the Dagbon settlement — achieved through dialogue, consultation and respect for traditional authority — remains a powerful model that could unlock lasting peace in Nanung and pave the way for the installation of a substantive Overlord of Nanung.

Hamza, speaking to Channel One News at the Gbewaa Palace, admitted that the unresolved dispute has caused him “many sleepless nights,” stressing that the absence of a recognised Overlord has slowed development across the Nanung Traditional Area.

He noted that Nanung has enormous human and natural resource potential, but progress has been stifled by the protracted conflict.

According to him, installing a substantive Overlord would strengthen traditional governance, foster unity, attract investment and create the right environment for accelerated socio-economic growth in the Nanumba Municipality.

The MCE therefore urged President Mahama to intervene using the same consultative and reconciliatory mechanisms that restored peace to Dagbon.

“I want to appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to apply the same mechanisms used to resolve the Dagbon conflict to the Nanung chieftaincy dispute so that we, too, can achieve the peace and stability Dagbon enjoys,” he said.

Hamza also called on traditional leaders, opinion leaders, youth and all stakeholders to embrace peace, dialogue and reconciliation, emphasising that development thrives only in unity and stability.
