New Classroom Block, No Desks: Sasabi KKMA Pupils Still Struggle Despite Church’s Intervention

Pupils of Sasabi KKMA Community School in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality are still battling basic learning challenges despite the construction of a new classroom block by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

For years, the school suffered severe infrastructure shortages that crippled teaching and learning. The Church’s intervention has brought renewed hope, offering a modern, safer and more conducive environment. But the relief is only partial.

Many of the newly completed classrooms remain without desks, forcing pupils to improvise during lessons. School authorities say the furniture shortage continues to undermine effective teaching and learning.

The school also lacks laboratory equipment, making practical science lessons nearly impossible and denying pupils hands-on experience essential for STEM education.

Teachers say although the new block has transformed the school’s physical outlook, the absence of critical teaching and learning resources threatens to blunt its full impact.

They are appealing to government, corporate bodies, NGOs and philanthropists to support the school with desks, laboratory equipment and other essential learning materials.

With a new academic year approaching, the school community remains hopeful that these gaps will be filled.

For the pupils of Sasabi KKMA Community School, the needs are simple but urgent: desks to sit on, a functional science lab, and the basic tools required to learn in dignity and safety.
