Ashanti Region: 19-year-old arrested after alleged robbery attack in Asabi

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 19-year-old man suspected of robbing a male adult and leaving him unconscious near a Presbyterian Church at Asabi in the Ashanti Region.

The suspect, identified as Ahmed Mustapha, was arrested by the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team after the team received information about the incident during a routine patrol on Tuesday, July 21.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police said the victim was found with machete wounds on his forehead, neck and left hand and was rushed to the KNUST Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

"The patrol team proceeded immediately to the scene. Upon seeing the Police, the suspect fled and hid in an uncompleted building. He was pursued and arrested," read part of the statement.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of the victim's mobile phone and a machete, which have since been retained as exhibits.

The Command said the victim regained consciousness after he was visited at the hospital around 5:30am on the same day and was in a stable condition while receiving medical care under observation.

"The victim sustained machete wounds to the forehead, neck, and left hand. He was rushed to the KNUST Hospital, where he was admitted and is currently receiving treatment," it noted.

The suspect remains in police custody assisting with investigations, the statement added.
