The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority, Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, Esq., spent last night at some depots in Tema, monitoring the progress of the implementation of the pilot phase of the 24 Hour Economy Programme in the Downstream Petroleum Sector.
Mr. Tameklo, in the company of the Lead for Energy at the 24 Hour Authority, Mr. Roland Azuguvu, the Director for the 24 Hour Programme at the Ghana Police Service, ACP Benjamin Ania, the Tema Regional Commander of Police, DCOP Asiedu, the liaison for the 24 Hour Programme at National Secourity Council Secretariat, Air Commodore Francis Ayamba, Directors of the National Petroleum Authority, Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD) and representatives from the customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, engaged management and staff of these depots on ways to improve the implementation to the fullest potential.
The team was pleased to hear from these depots that, since the pilot commenced, productivity has expanded with increased working hours, expanded workforce and work shifts as well as increased volumes and revenue.
The operators of these depots however mentioned the need for improved lighting and security.
This pilot phase, which covers 247 retail outlets, 11 depots, and 2 refineries, is to test the viability of extended operational hours in downstream petroleum operations and also to assess facility readiness relative to infrastructure, workforce, security, and compliance.
It is also to improve availability and accessibility of petroleum products in selected locations and above all generate evidence on employment, revenue, demand and service delivery.
Mr Tameklo reiterated that the 24-Hour Economy Programme is a long-term national policy that will continue to evolve through stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement.
“The downstream petroleum sector has demonstrated that the 24-Hour Economy is practical and achievable,” Mr. Tameklo said.
“The increased throughput, expanded workforce, additional shift systems and improved productivity we have witnessed are clear indications that the initiative is already delivering tangible benefits for businesses and the national economy,” he added.
Among the depots visited were the Petroleum Hub, Tema Fuel Company Limited (TFCL), VANA Energy and Quantum Oil and Gas Terminals.
