Volta Region: GNFS relocates bee swarm after attack on student and teacher at Vakpo Sec-Tech

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has safely relocated a bee swarm from Vakpo Secondary Technical School in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region after a student and a teacher were attacked and stung.

The two victims received medical attention following the incident, which occurred after the swarm was disturbed during weeding activities around the school.

The Anfoega Fire Station carried out the relocation exercise after it emerged that the bees had reportedly nested in the ceiling of the girls' dormitory for several years.

"The Anfoega Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service has safely relocated a bee swarm from Vakpo Secondary Technical School in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region after a student and teacher were stung and received medical attention," the GNFS said in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 22.

The Fire Service explained that the bees became aggressive after their nest was disturbed during routine weeding around the affected area, leading to the attack.

Following the successful operation, the GNFS advised educational institutions and the public to promptly report bee infestations to prevent similar incidents.

"The GNFS advises school authorities to report bee infestations early, restrict access to affected areas, and avoid disturbing swarms to prevent future attacks," the statement urged.
