Central Region: Three killed, 11 injured in head-on collision at Ajumako Kokoben

Three people have died while 11 others sustained injuries in a head-on collision involving a Toyota Isuzu and a Toyota Voxy at Ajumako Kokoben in the Central Region.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the fatal accident occurred on Monday, July 20, and prompted an emergency response from its personnel, who rescued victims trapped in the wreckage and helped restore traffic flow.

According to the Service, four occupants trapped in the vehicles were rescued by firefighters, while seven others had already been rescued by passersby before the emergency team arrived.

All the injured were handed over to medical personnel for treatment.

"The crash claimed three lives and left eleven others injured. Firefighters rescued four trapped victims, while seven had been rescued by passersby before their arrival," the GNFS said in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 22.

The Fire Service said its personnel also secured the accident scene to prevent further danger and ensure the smooth movement of traffic after the collision.

Preliminary findings, according to the GNFS, indicate that the crash may have occurred after the driver of the Toyota Voxy allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speed under poor visibility caused by dust.

"Preliminary reports suggest the collision occurred after the Toyota Voxy allegedly attempted a high-speed overtaking manoeuvre in dusty conditions, though investigations are ongoing," the statement added.

The GNFS urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads as investigations continue into the cause of the accident.
