As part of government’s commitment to empowering Ghanaian youth through skills training, the Business Advisory Office in the Nkoranza Municipal Assembly has trained 272 beneficiaries in various vocational fields under the Business in a Box (BizBox) project, funded by the Mastercard Foundation.
At a ceremony held at the forecourt of the Municipal Assembly to mark the graduation and distribution of start‑up kits, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Godfred Dapaa, urged beneficiaries to take proper care of the equipment provided to them.
He noted that many young people in the municipality are still seeking such opportunities, and therefore those selected must “thank God and make good use of the machines” to build sustainable livelihoods.
Hon. Dapaa also informed the gathering that the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South, Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, was invited but could not attend due to parliamentary duties. He, however, extended his greetings to all beneficiaries and stakeholders present.
The MCE emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to empower Ghanaian youth through skills development is being fulfilled through initiatives like BizBox. He cautioned beneficiaries against selling the equipment and encouraged them to use the tools to train others, thereby contributing to the municipality’s growth.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterprise Agency, Miss Magritte Osei, the Deputy National Project Coordinator, Mr. Abdul‑Latif Ibn Mohammed, described the graduation as “the beginning of new opportunities and renewed hope” for the 272 young entrepreneurs.
He highlighted that the beneficiaries represent diverse sectors essential to Ghana’s economic transformation. The support includes:
- 70 dressmakers
- 30 hairdressers
- 10 welders
- 3 carpenters
- 5 leather workers
- 44 plumbers
- 110 livestock entrepreneurs
Mr. Ibn Mohammed stressed that each start‑up kit represents a meaningful investment in the future of the beneficiaries and the broader local economy.
