Deputy Communication Minister urges collaboration to build Ghana’s digital economy

The Deputy Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, has called for strong collaboration between academia, industry and government to build a resilient digital economy and position itself as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation journey.

He made the call during the 2026 E-Learning Awareness Week and International Conference held by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.

Speaking on the theme “Harnessing AI and Emerging Digital Technologies to Advance Inclusive, Equitable and Ethical Learning Ecosystems,” the Deputy Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to building a digitally inclusive Ghana through investments in digital infrastructure, connectivity, innovation and the development of future-ready skills.

Mr Sukparu noted the importance of ensuring that the deployment of AI is guided by ethics, accountability and inclusion, so that technology becomes a force for opportunity rather than exclusion.

He confirmed the role of universities in driving research, innovation, entrepreneurship and policy discourse.

Expressing gratitude, Mr Sukparu thanked the Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, the University Management, the Organising Committee, and the entire KNUST community for their warm hospitality and the opportunity to engage with such an exceptional audience.

The conference brought together policymakers, academia, industry, development partners, researchers and students to explore how artificial intelligence and emerging technologies can reshape education and accelerate national development.
