TUE, 21 JUL 2026

A revised curriculum for Kindergarten to Junior High School education is to be presented formally to the Ministry of Education on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, for onward submission to President John Mahama.

The policy would then go to Cabinet and Parliament.

Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, announced this on Monday, when he took his turn at the Government Accountability Series Press Conference held at the Presidency in Accra.

He noted that the revision of their curriculum was to ensure smart start curriculum for greater integration of technology, science, engineering, and mathematics.

“Every country gets is right if it invests in its foundational learning system, because that is where literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, problem solving is lent,” the Minister said.

He, however added: “But in Ghana over the years, we have chosen to spend more at the secondary level than at the basic education level, a wrong that President Mahama is determined to write and to ensure realignment and relocation of resources more into foundational basic education.”

He said one of the most significant decisions they took as a government was to revise their education curriculum, and the agency responsible was the National Curriculum Review Agency (NACA).

Mr. Iddrisu said the new curriculum promises to introduce coding, electronics, official intelligence, and TVET into the basic education curriculum.

He said responsibility will be an integral part of the revised curriculum.

The Minister said therefore, at the Basic Education level, they had done some spending, improved competition grants, and ensured that it would be released in a timely.

He said they had made some payments to beneficiaries of over 5,681,000; declaring that they had paid an amount of GH¢64 million and then another GH¢60 million to support the competition grant.
